Valves control the flow of system media. This is done by opening, closing, or adjusting the valve. This process is called actuation. Actuation can occur in many different ways, and depending upon the method you choose, this may impact your valve selection criteria.
Actuators are devices that utilize a source of energy to operate a valve. This source of energy can be a human, or it can be a device with some sort of control and measuring capabilities. Actuators take fluid, electric or other source of power and convert it through a motor, piston or other device to perform work. Basic actuators are used to move valves to either fully opened or fully closed positions.
Swagelok offers a range of accessories to enhance instrumentation and process ball valve performance and control, including pneumatic actuators, solenoid valves, limit switches, and position sensors.
- Pneumatic actuators are available in both our standard 130 and 150 series rack and pinion models and in our ISO 5211-compliant models.
- Solenoid valves are assembled to the actuator to create an electro-pneumatically actuated assembly.
- Limit switches indicate actuator position by means of an electrical signal.
- Position sensors provide visual status of a valve.
