Despite advances in tube fitting design, there was still a need for a tube fitting with reliable sealing capabilities in systems with conditions of high pressure, vibration, and temperature variations. Additionally, performing system maintenance required seal repeatability under make and break conditions. In 1947 the Swagelok tube fitting was developed to meet these requirements.
The Swagelok tube fitting is a flareless mechanical grip-type fitting which uses geometry rather than torque for uniformity of make-up. The double ferrule compression fitting design provides separated tube grip and gas seal functions. The other significant advantages of Swagelok tube fittings are: consistent component geometry, uniform and repeatable performance, reliable remake capabilities, no special tools required and ready availability in a variety of configurations and materials.
